Danny Atkinson works at Alberta Oil Tool, and is a long-time volunteer with JA. Here is his story:
Six years ago, Alberta Oil Tool was looking for a way to increase interaction between our employees and the community. Junior Achievement was an excellent match. The JA staff in Edmonton met and discussed the program with us, and the Adopt-A-School program was a perfect fit. We were able to provide the financial support for the programs as well as provide the volunteers. We started with one school delivering 10 JA programs from Gr. 3 to Gr. 6. Since then Alberta Oil Tool has adopted a second school and this year we are looking at a third. Each year I have delivered two programs, usually one per school. My job has me traveling around Alberta, so last year I added volunteering for a third program in Bonnyville. JA has brought experiences to myself and fellow employees that normally we may not have had the opportunity to participate in. I look forward to each new school year to get into the schools and share my experiences with the wonderful students.
