Dan Klemke & Jack Klemke
Executive Chairman & Founder
KMC Mining Corporation
In 1949, Jack Klemke and his father Ted mortgaged the family farm and formed T.A. Klemke and Son Construction Ltd. Decades of experience later, and machines weighing in the millions of pounds in the fleet, Jack led the company to exclusively take up mining, from Syncrude’s original site to projects across Western and Northern Canada. Christian philanthropy and family made Jack a leader in everything he did. An equipment sales representative once said, “Jack is the most conservative man I ever met – but if he was a riverboat gambler, I would never sit at his table!”
Dan was appointed to the position of Executive Chairman in October 2019 after having served KMC Mining as Chief Executive Officer since March 2008. Dan joined the Company in 1969 and has held various operations and leadership roles, including Foreman, Superintendent, Estimator, Project Manager, Executive Vice President, President, and CEO. With over 44 years of experience, Dan has numerous credentials related to surface mining and the oil sands industry. Dan currently sits on the Mining Industry Advisory Committee (MIAC) supporting the Mining Engineering program at the University of Alberta. Additionally, Dan is a past Board Member of the Alberta Chamber of Resources, served on the National Board of Young Life Canada and received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta.
Jack, Dan and their team are known for innovation and leadership when it comes to developing mining machines and methods. KMC boasts many “firsts” in the industry. One notable concept, Wet Sizing, enabled a major change in oil sand processing which has reduced industry cost by hundreds of millions of dollars each year.
