Junior Achievement Northern Alberta –  2025 –  Scholarship Criteria & Applications

    Application & Selection Process

    Key Dates
    May 24, 2025 – Deadline to Apply

    June 2–6  – Short-listed students selected and notified via email
    June 12 – Candidates interviewed by a panel of judges chosen by JA
    June 21 – Recipients announced at JA’s Celebration of Achievement

    General Criteria – All Awards:

    • Overall 80% attendance in the Company Program.
    • Minimum 10% or $200 in sales achieved personally for your company.
    • Demonstrated dedication and commitment to learning at JA.
    • Required: One-page Resume | Optional: 90-second MAX creative video

    2024/25 Company Program Scholarship Requirements

    Foundation for Advancement of Entrepreneurship Scholarship – Supported by the Foundation for Advancement of Entrepreneurship: $2500

    This award is given to an Achiever who has displayed innovation and a superior use of technology to advance their company and product/service.

    • Winner is selected on the basis of scholastic ability, individual achievement, as well as leadership and career potential.

     

    Tim Melton President of the Year – Supported by the Tim Melton Entrepreneurial Award Fund: $850

    Applicants in a President role who have made a significant contribution towards improving and developing the outcome of the company’s success and an interest in helping others. This student has:

    • 90% weekly team meeting attendance
    • 80% overall attendance (other meetings and events)
    • Ensure all operations are running smoothly within the company
    • Company has a complete and accurate Shareholder’s Report

     

    Gary Silsbe Leadership Award – Supported by the Gary Silsbe Leadership Award Endowment Fund: $1000

    Applicants in any role who have demonstrated leadership or mentorship in their JA company (official or unofficial), personal growth within the JA program, involvement in their community, commitment to furthering their education and a response about how this award will make a meaningful difference in assisting their pursuit of post-secondary studies.

     

    • Preference MAY be given to applicants who have participated in Company Program more than once.
    • Preference MAY be given to applicants who have served as an executive.
    • The successful applicant must begin post-secondary education within 12 months of receiving this award.

     

    Reagan Williams Achiever of the Year – Supported by the Reagan Williams Achiever of the Year Scholarship Fund: $1500

    Applicants in any role who demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities, a thorough understanding of business procedures, excellent rapport with students and mentors, and perform well within their role in the company.

     

    • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate participation in high school extracurricular, community, and/or volunteer activities.
    • 90% weekly team meeting attendance

    VP Sales of the Year – Supported by Edmonton Chamber of Commerce: $500

    Awarded to a student in a Sales role who has:

    • Achieved significant product sales.
    • Demonstrates the etiquette and know-how to be a successful salesperson in the real world.

     

    VP Achiever of the Year – Supported by Edmonton Chamber of Commerce: $500

    Awarded to a student in the position of VP who has:

    • Demonstrated leadership above and beyond a supporting role. 
    • Contributed to the success of the company and demonstrated dedication and commitment to the JA program.

     

    VP Technology of the Year – Supported by Edmonton Chamber of Commerce: $500

    Awarded to a student in the position of VP Technology who has:

    • Utilized technology in an innovative way for their company’s internal and external strategy.
    • Developed a functional website, trained members on the IT systems, and initiated social media platforms

    Rookie of the Year – Supported by CPA Alberta: $1000

    Awarded to a student who:

    • Has a recommendation provided by an Advisor
    • Is a first-year Achiever who has shown exceptional dedication and growth and works well in their role

     

    Rookie of the Year – Runner Up – Supported by Doane Grant Thornton LLP: $500

    Awarded to a student who:

    • Has a recommendation provided by an Advisor
    • Is a first-year Achiever who has shown exceptional dedication and growth and works well in their role

     

    JA Female Achiever Award, valued at $750, supported by Meaghan Rewniak. 

    Awarded to a female student who:

    • Has 80% attendance at team meetings.
    • Shows dedication and commitment to the program.
    • Demonstrated a growth mindset and creative problem-solving

     

    Next Generation Leader Award – Supported by CPA Education Foundation: $1000 (2 awards)

    Awarded to two students who:

    • Provide a compelling personal perspective on how the JA Company Program has been a life-changing experience.
    • Demonstrate innovation and creativity, exemplary performance in their company responsibilities, and a willingness to assist and help others.

     

    In-School & After-School Student Opportunities

       

      Top Salesperson: Supported by Doane Grant Thornton LLP: $500

      Awarded to a student in the in-school or after-school Company Program who has:

       

      • Dedication and commitment to the program
      • An excellent work ethic throughout the program
      • Displayed contributions to the company in a variety of areas

       

      Most Valuable Achiever: Supporter by Doane Grant Thornton LLP: $500

      Awarded to a student in the in-school or after-school Company Program who has:

       

      • Dedication and commitment to the program
      • An excellent work ethic throughout the program
      • Displayed contributions to the company in a variety of areas
      • Recommendation by an advisory or CEO

      Please note that winners have seven years from the date of the award to redeem a scholarship certificate. Junior Achievement of Northern Alberta will pay scholarship funds directly to a post-secondary institution in Canada at the time a scholarship recipient provides confirmation of enrollment.

      JA Partners’ Scholarships & Awards

      Two awards valued at $2,000 each for students enrolled in and attending MacEwan University who participated in a Junior Achievement program. For more information and to apply, click here: Allan D. Hardy Memorial Award

      JA students entering their first year of post-secondary studies at an accredited Alberta post-secondary institution next year are also welcome to apply for the ManCap Foundation Scholarships. These scholarship opportunities are specifically meant for students with entrepreneurial ambition.
